"The Energizer" Red Personalities

Written by David A Sokolik | April 28, 2010

What Was Found From This Case Study Page 1

The main thing I found in both of these case studies was the need for approval. The red personality is so dynamic by nature that people forget that there is a person underneath all the fireworks.

In case study two the interviewee stated, "She was a "serial dater" as she never truly sees anyone, just a lot of sex" obviously this leaves a room for sexual abuse in the workplace. Whether the red personality is the victim or the aggressor sexual harassment is a real issue. What one person may view as a harmless gesture of affection, another may view as an out right attack.

According to a sexual harassment study "The causes of sexual harassment at work can be complex, and steeped in socialization, politics, and psychology, and Employee's are dependant on each other for teamwork and support, and are dependant on their supervisor's approval for opportunities and career success. 31 percent of the female workers reported they had been harassed at work and 62 percent of targets took no action. Employers can be legally responsible for sexual harassment against their employees and liable to them for damages; however, liability depends on the type of harassment, and who committed it."

People don't leave companies, they leave managers!

Another issue is the lack of respect for authority, "it is often repeated by those who study and write about management that organizations would work better, be more productive, and inspire customer loyalty if 90% of all management positions were eliminated. The reason being that so many who carry the title "manager" lack the training, skills, and natural talent to be really good managers. All too often new managers carry forward the bad habits of the managers they learned from, without any realization how much damage they inflict upon themselves, subordinates, customers and their organization. According to research conducted by the Gallup organization, "employees do not leave their jobs due to company performance; they leave because of their bosses".

Respect In The Workplace by David Balovich

We need to respect our coworkers as well as our bosses if we want to be respected ourselves. That goes for management as well, you can't possibly expect someone that you belittle on a daily basis to respect your authority over them.

"Respect can be defined as consideration for self and of others. Respect includes consideration for other people's privacy, their physical space and belongings; and respect for different viewpoints, philosophies, physical ability, beliefs and personality."

In order to respect others we need to respect ourselves, in both cases the interviewees put up masks to hide insecurities. Fixing the troubles that bind us will go a long ways to gaining a positive outlook towards life in general.
