The La Crosse Wisconsin Myrick Hixon EcoPark held its 17th Annual River to Ridge 5-Mile Run/Walk fundraiser on Saturday, May 14th, a event starting at Riverside Park, winding through the La Crosse Marsh trails, and leading to a beautiful view of the Mississippi River Valley from Hixon Forest's bluff top. Participants received a commemorative medallion and t-shirt, incentive gifts, and a delicious grill-out.
I designed the winning submission for the t-shirt, which became the over-all branding for the main event. One of the main things that the EcoPark wanted different for the 2011 event comparative to past events was a focus on family instead of nature as in past events. I created a radiating sun, casting its light with a stylized artistic approach, utilizing transparency techniques with clouds as well as the rays of light themselves. The blue of the sky was contrasted with the black overlays of trees, bushes and a Father and Daughter walking on the grassy trails. Finishing off the design was the River to Ridge logo created with a mixture of script and serif fonts.
The design was used on T-Shirts, posters, brochures as well as other media. I enjoyed the experience; it's a great feeling to take a roles in a local tradition.
