La Crosse Hixon House

Branding Concept

Green Turtle Illustraion Concept

The Hixon House is a historical landmark in La Crosse Wisconsin. They were undergoing a revitalization period to preserve and protect the heritage of the establishment.

They held a contest to see which La Crosse Designe's could come up with the best branding to attract a new generation of tourists.

I decided to photograph The Hixon Houses historic wallpaper for use as the background texture of the leaflet and tourist tickets. The creation of the logo was challenging taking in the relevant era as well as the physical elements of the Hixon House itself. I modified a nice serif font to give it a unique touch and used the large multi pained window in the front of the Hixon House as inspiration for a trademark.

The photographic opportunities were amazing inside the Hixon House. There were limitless possibilities taking in account the lighting on richly finished wood surfaces, or the equally lavish furniture that filled the rooms.

I chose two of the best photos for my design, and I was very satisfied with the results. In the end I took second place, congratulations to the first place winner. The experience and the great photographic opportunities were rewards all by themselves.
